Netta, our Chinese Acupuncturist, explains:
I see people with a range of complaints from digestive issues and anxiety to back pain and chronic fatigue. Lately, I have treated many people with post-infection syndromes, such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Long Covid. They are often complex to treat, but over time we have seen improvements to their symptoms, whether that is to their energy levels, sleep patterns, brain fog or muscle pains. Many often struggle with stress, anxiety and low moods and acupuncture can be extremely helpful to rebalance and calm the mind.
Being a qualified sports massage, tuina and abdominal-sacral therapist, allows me to weave these skills into my treatments where appropriate to provide a unique and holistic experience. Abdominal massage alongside acupuncture can be an extremely dynamic treatment for someone suffering from IBS or abdominal tension and some relief can often be experienced almost immediately. This combination is also very effective for gynaecological, fertility and post-natal concerns. I recently saw a lady four months post-partum and struggling with abdominal discomfort following a caesarean section; after 4 treatments, she noticed considerable improvements and reduced numbness in the area around the scar.
So what is acupuncture?
Acupuncture offers an approach to health and wellness underpinned by the ancient principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a system that has been refined and developed over thousands of years. The focus is on the individual, not the illness, and all the symptoms are seen in relation to each other. The aim is to restore balance in your mind and body; the physical, emotional and mental are seen as interdependent and reflect what many people perceive as the connection between the different aspects of their lives.
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture works to restore the free flow of Qi (energy) which can be affected by emotional or physical stress, poor nutrition, infection, injury or illness. Ultra-fine, sterile needles are placed into specific acupuncture points on the body. Once the Qi starts to be rebalanced, the body’s natural healing response is triggered.
Acupuncture works alongside western medicine; a combination of different approaches often results in a more positive outcome for the individual.
